PAST WORKSHOPS
PAINT LIKE ERIC RAVILIOUS
Visitors Centre, Cuckmere Haven
17th November 2024
In this class for beginners, students learned techniques used by Eric Ravilious - a war time artist famous for his paintings of the Sussex Downs. What better place to teach than Cuckmere Haven - one of the sites of his paintings?! I have always loved Ravilious's work and it was a pleasure to teach.
FLOWER FARM WATERCOLOURS
Pitfield Barn, Hurstpierpoint
Multiple classes throughout 2024
I have been hosting beginner flower painting workshops at Pitfield Barn throughout 2024 at a beautiful flower farm in East Sussex. In these classes we learn about how to paint flowers in a loose way that captures their essence as opposed to working too hard to make the flower 'perfect'. We cover techniques that allow watercolour to flow naturally, creating smooth textures & interesting mark making.
MAKE YOUR OWN MATCHBOX
The Yellow Book, Brighton
May 2024
In this workshop participants were given a blank matchbox to decorate with all sorts of different collage & drawing materials. It was amazing to see how everyones turned out! The workshop was more hands-off style and gave people freedom to create. We also had a mini photo printer that allowed people to print mini photos from their phones to stick on the boxes.
INTRODUCTION TO INTERMEDIATE WATERCOLOURS
Sea Lanes, Brighton
January 2024
This course was an opportunity to try out all sorts of different paper, brushes and techniques that someone who has been to a few drop in classes might want to know about for the future watercolour adventures! This is the first of this kind of workshop that I taught, and there was so much more that I wanted to say, but we go through a lot, drank lots of coffee, had some amazing toasted sandwiches, and just had a really lovely day of painting.
My favourite part of this workshop was when we all got a photo from the selection that I had printed off, and did an undirected painting from it. After a break we then shared what we liked and what we weren't sure about and it was really useful to just learn from each other as to what we could improve on.
One of the best things about this workshop for me was that it really forced me to look at my own practise of watercolours, and it encouraged me to start doing more experimental work and watch more videos on youtube about how to actually paint. I am generally self taught so it was really interesting looking online about how others go about it!
PAINT FOR CHARITY
December 2023
Charity workshop to help raise money for Survivors Network and create some beautiful hand made decorations inspired by nature in autumn and winter
November the 9th at the beautiful studio of artist Claire Knill, who has generously donated her space to this event to raise money for Survivors Network Brighton.
Survivors’ Network is the Rape Crisis Centre for Sussex. They believe that no one should be alone when they have experienced sexual harassment, abuse or violence and listen to, hear and believe survivors of all ages and genders. They are lucky enough to be taking part in a match funding program meaning that every penny raised in these sessions could be double and will help to fund specialist therapy sessions for survivors to start to heal from trauma.
The workshop involved painting all sorts of nature inspired by what's in season in the UK. Some themes would include mushrooms, colourful fallen leaves, seed heads, conkers, chestnuts and pumpkins. If we have time we can paint one or two animals as well 🦊🐰. Imagine that you are walking into a forest in late autumn, and collecting all sorts of different inspiration to decorate your home with!
BRIGHTON CREATIVE YOUTH NETWORK
January 2024
Workshop organised by BYCN at Freemasons, Hove. Em & Oli the organisers of BYCN approached me to run a watercolour workshop for their members & people who are interested in becoming part of BYCN. The theme for this class was 'Mushroom houses' and was 2 hrs long.
WATERCOLOURS AT CUCKMEREHAVEN
November 2023
Full day workshop at the visitors centre in Cuckmere Haven. We learned how to paint local wildlife including leaves, squirrels and foxes.
